Our goal is to keep patients teeth whole and healthy, however, there are cases where even dental crowns, root canals, and other advanced restorations fall short. When this happens, we may have to remove one or more teeth to ensure overall oral health. Depending on the location, size, and positioning of the tooth, the extraction can either be a simple “pulling” or a surgical procedure. We always begin by numbing the area to be treated. If we’re pulling the tooth, we may cut away some soft tissue. Then, the tooth is gently rocked back and forth until it comes away. Surgical extraction is more invasive, but still safe and comfortable in our office. We numb the area, cut away some soft tissue, and in some cases, we break the tooth into two or more sections for easy removal. We offer our patients Nitrous Oxide(“laughing gas”) if needed.
